During the month of October, an energy reduction contest took place with 7 participants signing up. The purpose for this contest was to show members how much more energy is consumed over and above that which is actually needed for our daily lives and how much it costs for those extra conveniences.
The first three participants received credits on their energy bills. 1st place winner $100.00 credit, Second place winner $50.00 credit and third place winner $25.00 credit.
In the winter of 2011, Richard and Joan LeVasseur contacted North Itasca Electric to discuss using the Dual Fuel Program to reduce the cost of heating their home. Because the existing home heating system was a hot water boiler with baseboard radiation using propane (which would be used for a backup heat source), they qualified for the Dual Fuel heating program.
An appointment was made with North Itasca Electric to visit their home for a heat loss calculation to determine the size of equipment needed. It was determined that a 13 kW was sufficient to satisfy their needs. However, the price difference between a 13 kW and a 15 kW boiler was so small, they decided to purchase a 15 kW Electro-Industries boiler. At the time of installation, the rate for Dual Fuel was $.048 per kWh. Todayís rate is $.052.
