Grand Rapids, Minn. – On April 25, 2023 the Grand Rapids and Bigfork elementary schools invited incoming kindergarten students from around the district into schools for the annual Kindergarten Round-Up. Over 225 future kindergarten students and their families were in attendance. The purpose of this annual event is to provide families with information about various school offerings as well as providing them an opportunity to ask questions. The event also gives our future kindergarten students the opportunity to meet their teachers and explore the school. Students were welcomed by kindergarten and special education teachers, lunchroom, counseling, Anishinaabe Gikinoo’amaadiwin and district staff, members of community organizations and their principals.
Every student received a Kindergarten Journal, a pack of crayons donated from the MacRostie Art Center and a book provided by Project READ. All families had the opportunity to register their students for KinderCamp; an upcoming opportunity for students attending Cohasset Elementary, East Rapids Elementary, and West Rapids Elementary to spend four, half-days exploring the academic and social learning opportunities of the kindergarten classroom before school begins. The opportunity will be held at East Rapids Elementary for all students from July 24-July 27.
Ryan Siegle, Assistant Principal at East Rapids Elementary and parent to an incoming Kindergarten student said, “What an amazing opportunity to kick off our students’ educational careers and welcome families into our buildings. I am incredibly proud of the kindergarten teachers in our district and cannot wait for my child to experience the love, care, and incredible instruction they provide.” ISD #318 is proud to welcome all future Thunderhawks and Huskies.
