Winter load control plans

Following is Great River Energy’s winter load management plan. The first day under the winter control strategy for Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) and other off-peak schedules varies by program as listed below. The first day under the winter control strategy for interruptible billing peak load management will be Friday October 1st, 2023, and the last day will be Saturday April 30, 2024.

As a reminder, there are many drivers affecting load control which include: Operational Price, capacity limitations, High MISO market prices (energy), unplanned generation outages, GRE Billing Peak (demand), MISO emergencies, GRE Critical Peak periods (energy), individual member needs and GRE’s On-Peak periods for energy.

Electric Thermo Storage (ETS) schedules for water heat and space heat will be shedding load from 6:00 a.m. Central Prevailing Time (CPT) through 10:00 p.m. CPT from October 1 through April 30.

Planned hours of load shed:

Electric Thermal Storage – Water Heating and Pool Heating

a) Total estimated winter control = Every weekday during winter months of October through April, approximately 2,700 hours.

b) Predefined load control periods – Winter control strategy:

Electric Vehicle and Charge Wise

a) Total estimated winter control = Every day during winter months of October through April, approximately 3,900 hours.

b) Predefined load control periods – Winter control strategy:

c) Other notes:

i) All ETS-Charge Wise Residential loads are on the same control strategy year-round.

Electric Thermal Storage – Space Heating

  1. Total estimated winter control = Every day during winter months of September 27th through April 30th, approximately 3,900 hours.
  2. Predefined load control periods – Winter control strategy i) Super Group A (Standard)

Dual Fuel and Air Source Heat Pump

a) Total estimated winter control = 20 days/108 hours

b) Control limits = Maximum of 12 hours/day.

i) Maximum allowable control = 400 hours/year.

c) Randomization: control schedules at individual receivers will be staggered by up to 30 minutes.

d) Predefined load control periods = None
